rust-analyzer is the official Rust language server and the core of Rust support in nearly every editor. It provides completion, go to definition, inlay type hints, refactors and inline errors through the Language Server Protocol. In VS Code you install the rust-analyzer extension; in Neovim, Helix, Zed, Kakoune, Emacs and Sublime you point the editor's LSP client at it. The older RLS and Racer have been retired in its favour.

Editor-specific plugins add the parts that LSP does not cover. rust.vim and rust-mode for Emacs provide syntax, formatting and Cargo commands, crates.nvim shows available crate versions inside Cargo.toml, kakoune-lsp connects Kakoune to language servers, and Rust Enhanced serves Sublime Text. Eclipse Corrosion brings Rust to Eclipse.

JetBrains users should note that the open-source intellij-rust plugin has been replaced by RustRover and JetBrains' own Rust plugin. Lapce is an editor written in Rust with built-in LSP support. For debugging, the CodeLLDB extension is the usual choice in VS Code, and it is listed under Debugging.
